Dustin Poirier shares UFC response after Atlanta airport arrest

Retired UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier disclosed that the promotion contacted him one day after his June arrest at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Poirier was charged with public drunkenness following an incident in which he threatened to fight a police officer while intoxicated and used a racial slur, according to Sherdog. He is currently out on bail.

Hunter Campbell offers UFC support after arrest

Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Poirier said UFC executive Hunter Campbell reached out the day after the arrest. "Hunter Campbell of the UFC reached out to me and asked what he could do, that the UFC's got my back, anything they could help with, to let them know," Poirier said. "I believe his exact words were something along the lines of, 'I can't let somebody who's fought for this company for over 15 years try to handle all of this on his own. We have your back. Let us know what you need from us.'"

Poirier confirmed he has not heard from UFC president Dana White directly. The former interim champion remains under contract with the promotion despite retiring last year.

Poirier, who holds a 30-10 professional record, has been open about struggling with his mental health since stepping away from competition. He told Helwani he is 28 days sober and has committed to long-term sobriety. While he has not ruled out a return to the cage, no timeline has been set for any legal proceedings or potential comeback.
