Dustin Poirier lost Bud Light deal worth hundreds of thousands

Dustin Poirier lost a six-figure sponsorship deal with Bud Light following his arrest for public drunkenness at an Atlanta airport.

The former UFC interim lightweight champion told Ariel Helwani that the beer company severed ties immediately after the incident, which saw him get into an altercation with a police officer. "It's all good. I don't need that poison in my life," Poirier said, per Sherdog. "It sucks that my family loses out on the money I had left on the deal with them, which is a few hundred thousand dollars."

Poirier commits to sobriety after arrest fallout

Poirier had appeared in commercials and served as a public brand ambassador for Bud Light before the airport confrontation. He was released on bail after threatening to fight an officer and using a racial slur during the encounter. Poirier said he has since reached out to the officer involved and quit drinking entirely.

The Louisiana native acknowledged that he cannot drink responsibly and that promoting an alcohol brand while sober made no sense. "There are plenty of people out there who do drink responsibly. I'm not one," he said. Poirier reported 28 days of sobriety as of last Sunday.

No return date has been announced for the 37-year-old lightweight contender.
