Duarte Suffers Dual Losses At ADCC 2026

Kaynan Duarte lost both his fights at ADCC 2026 in Krakow, Poland over the weekend, dropping the 99kg title to Luke Griffith and tapping out injured in the superfight against Yuri Simoes.

Duarte entered as reigning double champion but fell short in his bid to add more gold. According to MMA Mania, Griffith trailed for most of the 99kg final before landing a hard sprawl on a late takedown attempt, taking the back and locking up a fight-ending choke. Griffith won his first world title after placing second in 2024.

Duarte Injured In Superfight With Simoes

The superfight went even worse for Duarte. After more than 20 minutes of inactivity that drew heavy boos, the first scramble happened in overtime and Duarte immediately injured his shoulder, tapping to give Simoes the win. MMA Mania called it one of the most anticlimactic ADCC main events in history.

Felipe Pena became the first two-time ADCC absolute champion after rattling off six total wins on the night, while Ana Carolina Vieira defended her title by submitting Sarah Galvao with a rear naked choke in double overtime. Three first-time champions posted perfect submission runs, including 19-year-old Helena Crevar at plus-65kg, Victor Hugo at plus-99kg, and Jasmine Rocha at 55kg.

Fourteen-year-old Joslyn Molina became the youngest ADCC medalist ever by taking bronze at 65kg, beating two adult black belts before losing to Galvao on points. Filipino grappler Gavin Corbe earned silver at 66kg despite entering as a late replacement on 11 days notice.

Eight first-time world champions were crowned across the divisions. Local standout Pawel Jaworski and Dagestan's Magomed Dzharbaev ended Europe's 23-year drought of male ADCC champions by winning at 88kg and 77kg, respectively.
