Oscar Duarte and Kenneth Sims Jr. made the 140-pound weight limit ahead of their August 2 clash.

Duarte, who suffered a defeat to Ryan Garcia in 2023, has since rebuilt his career under trainer Robert Garcia. He made a statement by becoming the first fighter to stop former world champion Jo Jo Diaz, followed by wins over Batyr Akhmedov, and Miguel Madueño. These performances have earned Duarte the No. 5 ranking in the WBA junior welterweight division. Kenneth Sims Jr., ranked No. 4 by the WBA, is equally confident. The fighter is currently on a six-fight winning streak, with his latest victory being a decision win over Kendo Castaneda. Sims will face his toughest test yet against Duarte. Both fighters weighed 139.8 pounds.

Pre-Fight

"I am the new face of boxing and I will prove it this Saturday night inside the ring. I’m happy for the opportunity to take on Kenneth Sims. I knew we were going to have a fight before this [but it] didn’t happen. Now, we actually have it. This is going to be a good fight. It’s a good challenge. I want to be a champion [and] whoever is in front of me, I’m going to take him out," Duarte said

"It’s a good opportunity for me. He got a good name, he’s ranked high. I think he’s the perfect style matchup for me. It’s the perfect matchup of a boxer versus a brawler, which everybody always says. And as far as like him saying the ducking thing, I didn’t really care. I said something at the press conference, but that didn’t really bother me. I just did that to mess with him. People have been asking me the last week if it’s personal. I don’t know him personally for it to be personal. It’s a job. We got a job to go in there and do it," Sims stated
