Dillon Danis And KSI Appeal Their Respective Losses

In today’s boxing news, Dillon Danis has formally issued an appeal in order to try and overturn his disqualification loss to Logan Paul.

The comments come in the aftermath of the referee calling off the bout after Danis had attempted to execute two MMA moves. A takedown and a guillotine choke were attempted, but failed, as the referee had no option but to stop the fight.

In the aftermath, the response to Danis’ performance was largely negative. The fighter had reportedly thrown 16 punches in the whole bout, to his credit, Danis did manage to get through the bout without being stopped on his boxing debut.

However, prior to the fight being called off, Paul’s security team did rush into the ring. And as rules would have it, if a member of a boxer’s team enters the ring while the fight is still ongoing, that should be grounds for disqualification. And after having now submitted his appeal, Paul was not best pleased with the news as he called out Danis’ unsavoury actions.

Paul On Danis

"Embarrassing and desperate. What’s the appeal? He tried to take me down, failed. He tried to choke me out, failed. He didn’t even try to fight back, he just took his ass beating like a bitch. Dude really thinks he can handle everything online. He should just accept the loss like a man and move on with his pathetic life," Paul stated

Nevertheless, the saga could help build up a potential rematch particularly if the decision is overturned. In addition, given that Logan had backtracked on the promise to run things back in MMA if Danis did turn up to fight, which he did, there is a narrative that could play out which results in another bout. Time will tell how it all plays out moving forward.

Outside of that, Danis has been formerly released by Bellator following the expiry of his contract. Danis, who is aged 30, made his foray into combat sports in 2018.

And after having racked up two wins in Bellator, the fighter suffered knee injuries that kept him out of action for numerous years. That disrupted a career that otherwise had promised much.

While Danis did return to the combat sports world with the bout against Logan Paul, the fighter has expressed a desire to return to MMA with a focus on the UFC.

"Boxing is not a real fight. It’s half a fight.  I want to fight him in a real fight.  He shook my hand and said that he was going to fight me in MMA. After this, I’m going to the UFC.  I want to go to the UFC.  I think the UFC now will see my potential in selling fights and everything like that," Danis

KSI’s Appeal

At the same time, KSI has officially taken steps to appeal his loss to Tommy Fury.

The duo squared off in a boxing bout on October 14th, 2023, as Fury was given a majority-decision win: 57-56, 57-57 and 57-56.

In a fight where there was very little to choose between the two, Fury was given the nod despite having had a point deducted in the second round for rabbit punching. Thereafter, KSI branded the decision a ‘robbery.’

And yet, Judge Rafael Ramos’ scorecard of 57-57 had been incorrectly added up, as the bout should have been scored 57-56. As such, Fury was given the win via a unanimous decision.

Nevertheless, KSI’s camp has now taken steps to appeal the loss. Mams Taylor, who happens to be KSI’s manager, confirmed that the fighter’s lawyer would be filing an appeal.

"JJ has instructed a King’s Counsel who advised the PBA yesterday that he would be appealing the result of the fight. For obvious reasons, we will not get into the specifics of the appeal publicly and allow the process to play out in accordance with PBA rules," Taylor

Nevertheless, the chances of an appeal being successful are slim. Daniel Dubois’ appeal to the WBA, over his alleged low-blow punch, to overturn his loss to Oleksandr Usyk failed, despite the boxer’s punch in the fifth round being seen as credible amongst many in the boxing community.

Therefore, it would take serious grounds to overturn the decision. And in a fight that had very little to offer by way of action, the odds may be against KSI.
