Diaz On McGregor's UFC 329 Injury

Nate Diaz offered unexpected support for Conor McGregor following the Irishman's brief and brutal UFC 329 comeback.

McGregor lasted only minutes against Max Holloway in March before landing awkwardly on his right leg after a missed flying kick. The injury is expected to sideline him for another year. The former two-division champion had been out of action for five years before the attempted return.

Diaz Keeps Trilogy Door Open Despite Sympathy

Diaz was reportedly the leading candidate to face McGregor before Holloway got the nod. Instead, Diaz fought Mike Perry at Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano and lost by TKO. In a recent MMA Junkie interview, Diaz acknowledged McGregor remains a draw despite their history.

He called McGregor a fighter worth seeing and said he felt bad about the setback. Diaz added he was sending positive vibes for the comeback, per the interview.

Diaz also said he planned to keep winning before eventually facing McGregor again. The Stockton native could return to the UFC if the trilogy materializes, though his immediate future remains uncertain with an MMA rematch against Jake Paul in the mix.

McGregor has floated a Summer 2027 return, though that timeline is tentative. The trilogy with Diaz would be one of the biggest fights the promotion could make if both fighters are healthy and willing.
