Daniel Cormier denies viral Eric Trump UFC rigging claims
Daniel Cormier dismissed a viral social media firestorm Sunday night after screenshots surfaced allegedly showing Eric Trump asking him whether UFC White House fights were rigged.
The screenshots, which spread across Twitter ahead of tonight's event, purported to show a direct message exchange in which Trump asked Cormier for inside information on the card. According to the images, Trump reportedly inquired whether any fighters were injured before cutting to the chase. "Are any of the fights tomorrow rigged?" the message read, per MMA Fighting. "I've been eyeing the Lopes fight and I think an upset wouldn't be too unrealistic. $$"
Cormier questions authenticity of viral screenshots
The alleged conversation included Cormier responding that none of the promotion's fights are fixed and that he was appalled by the question. Multiple accounts also shared what they claimed was a since-deleted tweet from Cormier condemning insider behavior, though the post is no longer visible on his timeline.
Cormier later posted a cryptic response that appeared to address the controversy. "Are people really this dumb?" he wrote. The former two-division champion did not clarify whether he was suggesting the screenshots were fabricated, his account had been compromised, or something else entirely.
Cormier is scheduled to work cageside commentary for tonight's UFC White House event on the South Lawn.
