Dana White Unfazed By The UFC's Anti-Trust Lawsuit

Dana White is unfazed by the UFC’s current anti-trust lawsuit.

Former UFC fighters, including Cung Le and Nate Quarry, came together to file a class-action lawsuit. This will go on trial in April against The UFC. It is claimed the UFC broke anti-trust laws to form a monopoly over the sport and control how much a fighter could make. It allegedly did this by overpowering its competition and lowering its wages.

This may impact the UFC’s valuation as a brand following their merger with the WWE to form TKO Group Holdings. There is a danger that the share price will plummet dramatically if the UFC comes out on the wrong end of a decision. Although that may be the case, White was not worried about the outcome of any decision.

White Reacts

“No. [I give] literally zero [thought to it]. I don’t think about it ever, it has nothing to do with me," White said

This could have a bearing on the company if it is forced to pay between $811 million and $1.6 million in damages being sought. Given that there is an anti-trust lawsuit, there is a danger that the damages are tripled. This could all be avoided if an out-of-court settlement is reached. But if the fighters win, those who competed between December 16, 2010, and June 30, 2017, will be entitled to damages. Those who competed after that date are also included in the lawsuit.

Implications

"Thrilled to announce that the court in the UFC case has certified the class of MMA fighters. We look forward to demonstrating our allegations that the UFC has abused its market power to suppress fighter pay before a jury in Las Vegas. The fight for fighter justice continues,” Eric Cramer one of Plaintiff’s attornies

White may appear comfortable now, but that could all change depending on the nature of the decision.
