Dana White: McGregor "Will Do Just Fine" Under New UFC Deal
The question of how Conor McGregor was addressed by Dana White at the UFC 328 post-fight press conference.
McGregor has not fought since 2021. Injuries, suspensions, and legal matters have kept him away from the Octagon for the better part of five years. The structural change to how the UFC distributes its revenue in the United States following their Paramount+ deal has complicated negotiations.
McGregor was among the most significant beneficiaries of the old model — he headlined some of the highest-selling pay-per-view events in combat sports history, and a meaningful portion of his earnings came directly from a cut of those buys.
That mechanism no longer exists in the same form, and rebuilding a compensation structure that reflects his drawing power without the traditional pay-per-view framework is the challenge TKO faces. White suggested the solution is already in place. "There's a formula to it, McGregor's going to do just fine," he said
The implication is that the UFC has already built a model for converting historic pay-per-view performance into equivalent compensation under the streaming deal, and that McGregor's numbers — among the highest the organisation has ever seen — will be reflected accordingly.
The broader picture remains unresolved. McGregor is one of the few fighters in combat sports history capable of moving the needle the way he has, and there is clearly appetite on both sides to make a return happen.
