Cormier Tells UFC To Book Aspinall ASAP
Daniel Cormier wants the UFC to end its standoff with Tom Aspinall and get the heavyweight champion back in the cage as soon as possible.
Aspinall has been sidelined since his no-contest with Ciryl Gane nearly a year ago, and tensions between the fighter and UFC brass have escalated in recent months. The situation worsened when Aspinall signed with Eddie Hearn's management stable earlier this year — Hearn being a promoter Dana White once challenged to a literal fight. Aspinall addressed rumors about his promotional future this week, but the former dual-weight champion believes it is time for everyone to move past the drama.
Cormier Says Aspinall Is Best Heavyweight Alive
"Tom Aspinall needs to be in the UFC," Cormier said on his YouTube channel, per MMA Fighting. "Tom Aspinall needs to be back fighting as fast as we can get him, because he is the best heavyweight in the world." Cormier added that Aspinall belongs inside the octagon and urged both sides to resolve their differences. The former champ also cautioned Aspinall against chasing big one-off paydays outside the UFC, arguing that other promotions cannot sustain massive purses fight after fight the way the UFC can.
Aspinall remains under contract and has indicated he plans to settle unfinished business with interim champion Ciryl Gane. Reports suggest the rematch could happen before the end of the year.
