Conor McGregor fans turn sour ahead of UFC 329 comeback
Conor McGregor returns to the octagon next Saturday at UFC 329 against Max Holloway, but a vocal segment of fight fans has already written off the former champion's comeback.
MMA Mania reports that social media lit up with criticism this week as McGregor prepares for his first bout in five years. At 37, the Irishman faces questions about conditioning, power retention, and dedication after a 60-month layoff. Holloway represents a brutal test for any returning fighter, let alone one who last competed in 2021.
What fans are saying about McGregor's chances
Online reactions ranged from skeptical to hostile. "A return to nothing but to being beat up," one commenter wrote, per the report. "His new run will be short lived. He's washed." Another predicted McGregor would struggle if he fails to score an early knockout: "If Conor doesn't knock max out early he's cardio will be the deciding factor."
More pointed criticisms surfaced beyond fight analysis. One user dismissed the entire event with "Who the f*** cares," while another called McGregor "a POS has been." A separate comment referenced McGregor's legal troubles, writing, "The return of the r-pist. Let's celebrate! Money over everything, right? Disgusting lack of morality."
The rematch marks nearly 13 years since McGregor and Holloway first met, when the Irishman won by decision in 2013. McGregor has promised improvements in recent interviews, saying he cut no corners in camp. Holloway, meanwhile, told reporters he just wants his opponent to show up Saturday night.
UFC 329 goes down July 11 from Las Vegas.
