Conor McGregor promises comeback in birthday video after UFC 329 injury
Conor McGregor posted his first video message since suffering a knee injury in the opening minute of his UFC 329 loss to Max Holloway earlier this month.
The 38-year-old former two-division champion shared footage on his birthday showing him with his wife before turning the camera on himself. "We'll be back," McGregor said, per MMA Mania. "In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Let's go."
What doctors are saying about McGregor's knee injury
McGregor wore no visible brace in the clip, which sports medicine specialist Dr. Brian Sutterer noted on social media likely rules out a severe collateral ligament tear. Sutterer wrote that the absence of a brace means no high-grade MCL or LCL damage, though it reveals nothing about the ACL or meniscus. The range of motion McGregor displayed suggests at least 90 degrees of flexion, Sutterer added, calling that a positive sign.
A meniscus injury would give McGregor the best chance at returning by his targeted April 2027 date. If the ACL is torn for the second time in his career, a year or more on the sidelines becomes the likely scenario.
The UFC has not released details on McGregor's specific diagnosis or whether surgery will be required. McGregor had previously tweeted about plans to fight again but had not appeared on camera until the birthday message.
