Khamzat Chimaev needs time off to heal his hands but says the break will be brief.

The former UFC middleweight title challenger told MMA Fighting on Thursday that punching power has taken a toll on his hands, requiring treatment that could keep him out one to two months. "I punch hard so I always have problems with my hands and I have to fix it," he said, per the outlet. "It's not going to take a long time but people think Khamzat is not going to fight."

Chimaev Eyes Borralho Fight, Predicts Imavov Title Win

Chimaev pushed for an October fight with Caio Borralho, but the Brazilian had an injury. Borralho told him November or December would work instead. UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland is expected to defend against Nassourdine Imavov before the year ends, according to reports. Chimaev lost a narrow decision to Strickland in May.

When asked about the title picture, Chimaev said he wants whoever emerges from the Strickland-Imavov fight. He picked Imavov to win. "I would be happy who is the winner if they come back faster," he said. "It's a tough fight. But I go for Nassourdine."

Chimaev is scheduled to face Gilbert Burns on Saturday in Miami as part of a RAF card while he waits for his next UFC opportunity.
