Charlo Vows To Surprise Canelo With His Power

Jermell Charlo has vowed to surprise people when he faces Canelo Alvarez on August 30th, 2023.

The undisputed junior middleweight champion will attempt to make history by beating Canelo at super-middleweight and become undisputed in two-weight divisions.

The latter feat is something that Terence Crawford achieved when he stopped Errol Spence Jr. to become the undisputed welterweight champion of the world.

Although that may be the case, Charlo is the huge underdog as he will jump up two-weight classes. Not only that, but the pressure to perform has increased on him of late.

The WBO recently confirmed that his belt would be stripped once he fights against Canelo since his mandatory at 154, Tim Tszyu, had been waiting in the wings for over a year with no fight agreed.

Meanwhile, Crawford is also targeting a bout with Charlo down the line. He is the ‘WBO super-welterweight champion’ following his win over Spence.

This makes him a mandatory for Tszyu if he moved up to 154. And a victory over the Australian could then set up a fight with Bud.

However, Charlo’s main focus will be to get one over Alvarez as he predicted that his power would surprise people.

Charlo’s Comments On Canelo

"I believe I got the speed. I got the power. I know one thing about it is Canelo, he is strong. I feel like I’m probably a bigger puncher than Canelo. That’s going to be the surprise.

"I’m not just a little 154-pounder when I walk around. And I don’t have to struggle to make 168. So I’m going to have a great time. Training camp has been good. I’ve already been training for months," " Charlo

Nevertheless, Canelo also has something to prove. Following the Mexican’s defeat to Dmitry Bivol and his failure to knock out ‘GGG’ and John Ryder, there were suggestions that the Mexican was on the decline.

And given Alvarez’s three-fight deal with the PBC, he will want to put it all on the line with no stone left unturned.
