In the latest boxing news, Jack Catterall beat Jorge Linares via a unanimous decision, but the talking point in the post-fight comments turned towards the latter’s retirement.

Linares is a three-weight world champion, who has managed to win four world titles, whose career suffered a decline with four straight losses in a row, including the Catterall defeat.

The 38-year-old looked a shadow of himself, as Catterall was quicker to the punch, with the Brit almost stopped the Venezuelan in the fifth round.

Despite having managed to get through the round, Linares was second best for most of the fight. As for Catterall, the attention turned towards a rematch with Josh Taylor.

In their first bout, Taylor was given a split-decision win in a bout that the majority of the boxing community felt that Catterall had done enough to win.

Outside of that, a genuine shot at a world title in the junior welterweight division could follow. With that being said, here were the key takeaways from the post-fight comments.

Post-Fight Comments

"Happy, super happy, I don’t care if I lost. I’m a three-time world champion. I’m a very blessed guy. So to finish like this is amazing; it’s a big thing for me. I’m super happy to be here and to show myself who I am and how I finish the fight by a decision. It’s important to me. I came here to enjoy. Yes, I made everyone happy.

"That’s a good thing. Yes, this is the last fight. I love boxing; I love to be in the gym. I can help [trainer] Ismael Salas in the gym. Maybe I can open a gym. I have a lot of opportunities. I can work on TV and do whatever I want. I want to rest a little bit. I made a beautiful story all my life, and that’s why I finish super happy. I don’t need to show anybody who I am.  That’s why I train so hard to make a beautiful show. The only thing I want to say is thank you everybody, and congratulations to Jack [Catterall]. The UK is the best," Linares

"Times when I did catch him, I probably should have gone more [at him]. These 12 rounds with Jorge are going to put me in good shape heading into these big fights. … I did what I set out to do. … Taylor, where are you? Let’s have it. It’s personal now. He’s said some nasty things over the last 18 months and I think we’ve got a score to settle. I’m going to need a Josh Taylor, a Devin Haney, a Regis Prograis to bring the best out of me and bring that fire," Catterall

"Every fighter wants to win a world title, but every fighter wants a fight with that buildup… There will be no respect against Josh Taylor. It’s a fight everybody wants to see," Hearn

With that being said, Catterall faces a crucial few months moving forward. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
