Canelo Warns Berlanga Over His Trash Talk – ‘We’re Gonna See'

Canelo Alvarez has downplayed Edgar Berlanga’s trash talk, stating the fighter appears nervous.

They face off on September 14 during Mexican Independence Weekend, with Canelo the heavy favorite. He defends his WBA, WBC and WBO belts against the 22-0 undefeated fighter. There has been a fiery build-up, which was shown in the kickoff presser. Berlanga was annoyed that Canelo kept cutting him off, as the Mexican refused to stop.

They then approached each other as security kept them apart. Canelo promised to punish Berlanga, who has since then said he will stop Canelo. However, Canelo has seen this before. His only losses have come against Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.

Meanwhile, he has never been stopped. Those losses were simply the result of being outboxed. Berlanga has only stopped one opponent in his last six fights, which was his last bout against Padraig McCrory, even if the Puerto Rican has 17 KOs. Canelo simply felt this was nervous energy.

"The people who talk a lot, it’s always because they’re nervous. That’s guaranteed. I hope this is not the (case), but sometimes when people talk a lot of [rubbish], they do nothing in the fight. I hope this fight is different, and I hope the way he talks, he fights. We’re gonna see if he’s ready or not," Canelo said

Tim Bradley expanded on that further, stating that Canelo will make an example of Berlanga. The last time Alvarez became annoyed against an opponent in a similar manner was against Caleb Plant. During their face-off, Plant referred to Canelo with the f-word. He then aimed a slap at Canelo, who avoided it before countering himself. Plant was cut under the eye, but the fight still went ahead.

Plant performed well in the first half of the fight with his boxing skills. But once Canelo closed the distance, Plant could not prevent the Mexican from walking him down as he was stopped. They settled their feud in the aftermath. Plant fights on this Canelo card. During the kick-off presser, Canelo promised Plant that he would beat Berlanga. Berlanga has also had plenty to say about Plant, as Bradley expected Alvarez to be dominant.

Bradley On Canelo

"Canelo is looking for fish that was already fried. I like Berlanga. Congratulations, Berlanga. You hit the lotto. It’s a fight that you can’t resist. From the skills point of where he’s at in his career right now, I just think Canelo is going to be too much for him. He’s going to get paid to get his [backside] whooped.

"He’s only been facing guys he knows he can pick on, but I’m going to give him credit for Munguia. Munguia was a dangerous guy on his way up. He worked his way to get to this position. That was a good fight for Canelo, Munguia, because everyone wanted to see him against a younger fighter. He tore his [backside] up, and he’s going to do the same thing to Berlanga," Bradley stated
