Canelo-Crawford The Biggest Out There, Hearn On Canelo's PBC Deal
Terence Crawford has called a fight between him and Canelo Alvarez as the biggest fight to be made.
Talks over a fight first emerged when Bud suggested that he was open to facing Canelo at a catchweight of 158 pounds. In response to that, Alvarez dismissed the possibility on the grounds that he would not be able to make the weight.
The Mexican has not fought below 160 since 2019. That was when Alvarez defeated Danny Jacobs. However, since then, Crawford backtracked on his remarks by stating that he was willing to face Canelo at 168.
"Why is it ridiculous? I meant what I said. Listen, listen, that would be my opportunity to show everybody how great Terence Crawford really is. If Canelo win that fight (Charlo) and accept that fight and I come up to 168 and challenge him from undisputed at his weight, and that fight happen, then you know, man, I’mma just show everybody that skills pays the bills and I’ve got the skills to do it all in that ring," Crawford

That would require Bud to jump up three weight classes in what would be a historic fight at super middleweight. Thereafter, Alvarez was open to the idea provided that it made sense.
And such a fight would draw in huge numbers since a win for Crawford would make him undisputed in three weight classes. And that is something that is unheard of which is why he was keen to make it happen.
"Canelo vs Crawford is the biggest fight in boxing. There’s no fighter out there that’s a bigger fight then us," Crawford said
Nevertheless, the bout would put all the risk with Alvarez. Since he is the bigger fighter who would be expected to win, a loss would certainly harm his cause.
But since he is willing to fight boxers who are coming up from lower divisions, such as Jermell Charlo who will come up from 154, a bout with Crawford is not out of the question. Time will tell how it all plays out moving forward.
Hearn On Canelo
Meanwhile, Eddie Hearn has opened up on Canelo Alvarez’s three-fight deal with the PBC.
Alvarez decided to end ties with Matchroom Boxing and DAZN after having fought John Ryder in his last fight on the network. This was in response to the failure to secure the big fights.
A deal with Dmitry Bivol at 175 could not get made after disagreements over the weight. Bivol was keen on getting the fight made at super middleweight in an attempt to grab all the belts at 168.
Meanwhile, Alvarez was intent on facing Bivol on the same terms in order to avenge his loss. But since it became clear that the fight was not going ahead, Alvarez moved on to the PBC.
As a result, he will face Jermell Charlo on September 30th, 2023, for the belts at 168. With that being said, this is what Hearn had to say.
"We talk socially every now and again, but he made the best move for his career. And I think he did make the best move. I didn’t have any options for him at all, really. As close as we are and as friendly as we are, it don’t really work like that. Once that offer got presented to him, I think he made the right decision," Hearn
Nevertheless, the chances of Alvarez coming back to work with DAZN are slim. By time Alvarez finishes his three-fight deal, the Mexican will be 35-36 years old. Therefore, the prospects of getting the biggest fights will only go down from thereon.
After all, Canelo has been a professional since the age of 15. Therefore, given that the Mexican has a lot of miles on the clock, will Alvarez return to work back with Hearn?
And yet, there is no guarantee that Canelo will complete his three fights with PBC. Boxers have shown in the past that things can change at any minute. And given that Canelo is one of the biggest boxers out there, he is the cash cow.
So if the deal does not make sense, then the Mexican would no doubt attract other offers. And there is no getting away from that.
