Buckley Calls Out Poirier Over Airport Arrest
Joaquin Buckley has challenged Dustin Poirier over the retired lightweight's June arrest at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Poirier was taken into custody for public intoxication and later admitted wrongdoing after reportedly threatening a police officer and using a racial slur during the altercation. While most fans treated the incident as a minor embarrassment, Buckley took issue with Poirier's conduct toward airport staff, Sherdog reports.
Buckley Questions Poirier's Behavior Toward Female Staff
The UFC welterweight posted a video to Instagram accusing Poirier of disrespecting female employees and softening his tone once law enforcement arrived. "When that other police officer showed up, you sobered up real quick," Buckley said in the clip, per Sherdog. He closed by turning Poirier's own words back at him, telling the former interim champion to confront him if he had a problem with the criticism.
Buckley's public challenge came after Poirier voiced support for Josh Hokit and drew backing from coach Din Thomas over the airport incident. The welterweight, who has dropped three straight, said his next fight will be his last in the sport.
