BKB Crowns Two Champions In Mexico Debut
Bare Knuckle Boxing will crown two world champions when it stages its first Mexican event Sept. 19 in Tijuana.
Local fighter Julian Fernandez defends his super cruiserweight title against three-division former champion Dan Podmore in the main event, per Sherdog. The co-feature sees Puerto Vallarta's Cecy Ulloa challenge Andy Nguyen for the vacant flyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super flyweight strap.
Fernandez Returns Home To Defend Title
Fernandez captured the super cruiserweight belt with a first-round stoppage of Alex Wilson at BKB 53 and now makes his initial defense on home turf. Podmore brings a 9-4 bare-knuckle record and titles at three different weights — heavyweight, bridgerweight, and cruiserweight — into the bout.
"Our Mexico debut deserves nothing less than two world championship fights, and that's exactly what fans in Tijuana are getting on Sept. 19," BKB CEO David Tetreault said in a release.
Ulloa enters with 18 years of combat sports experience and a 2-1 BKB record, plus one no-contest. The switch-hitter was previously ranked number one at flyweight in bare-knuckle boxing. Nguyen made history as the first professional Vietnamese-American female fighter and has won the King of the Cage atomweight title three times.
The double-header marks a major push into Latin America for the promotion. Weigh-ins and undercard details have not been announced.
