Baumgardner Moves Up To Challenge Turhan For IBF Title
Alycia Baumgardner will move up to lightweight to challenge IBF champion Elif Nur Turhan on November 8 in Arlington, Texas.
Most Valuable Promotions announced the 10-round main event Monday, per Bad Left Hook. The card streams live on ESPN from the College Park Center and features four world title fights. Baumgardner last defended her featherweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super featherweight titles in April against Bo Mi Re Shin but sees better output at the higher weight.
Turhan Expects All-Out War With Baumgardner
Turhan carries a 14-0 record with eight knockouts into the fight. The Turkish fighter beat Gabriella Tellez by decision in June and told reporters she expects an all-out war. "As two boxers sharing a 'win at all costs' mentality, we guarantee a fierce, relentless battle where everything is left on the line," Turhan said.
Baumgardner, 18-1 with seven knockouts, already captured undisputed gold at 130 pounds. She plans to do it again at lightweight. "I know what it takes to become undisputed. I've done it before, and I'll do it again," Baumgardner told Bad Left Hook.
The co-main features Tiara Brown defending her WBC featherweight strap against Ellie Scotney. Skye Nicolson makes her MVP debut in a title defense against Miyo Yoshida, while Ramla Ali meets Mikiah Kreps for vacant IBF and WBO belts at bantamweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super bantamweight.
