Bashi Chokes Out Calderon In UFC Vegas 124 Debut
Austin Bashi made quick work of UFC newcomer Carlos Calderon at UFC Vegas 124 on Saturday night, locking in a first-round rear-naked choke at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas.
Bashi, bouncing back from a loss to Jose Delgado in his previous outing, entered as a heavy betting favorite against Calderon, who accepted the featherweight bout on just days notice. The 25-year-old prospect wasted little time validating the odds, per MMA Mania.
Bashi Dominates Short-Notice Opponent
Calderon, arriving from Fury FC, came out aggressive and tried to press the action early. Bashi shut down the newcomer's offense by taking the fight to the mat, where he advanced to back control and secured the choke. Calderon resisted briefly before tapping to end his Octagon debut.
The stoppage keeps Bashi in the conversation among rising 145-pound prospects despite his recent setback. Calderon's willingness to step up on short notice earned him a UFC opportunity, but the lack of preparation showed against a focused opponent.
UFC Vegas 124 aired live on Paramount Plus from the Meta Apex facility.
