Barcelos' Coach Gives Update After UFC Vegas 121 Collapse

Raoni Barcelos is conscious and talking after collapsing unconscious in the fifth round of his UFC Vegas 121 main event against Raul Rosas Jr., according to his coach Davi Ramos.

Barcelos appeared to lose consciousness without warning while clinched against the cage Saturday night, per MMA Mania. His arms went limp and Rosas Jr. took him down, where he lay unresponsive with his mouth open. Medical staff rushed in and transported the 39-year-old bantamweight to a Level 1 trauma center for a CT scan and evaluation.

Ramos Updates Fans On Barcelos' Condition

Ramos posted a video update on social media Sunday. "Raoni is doing well, he has all his senses, he's moving his leg, his arm, his hand, he's conscious, he's talking, everything is fine with him," Ramos said in Portuguese, as translated by MMA Fighting. "Keep praying for him."

The UFC confirmed earlier that Barcelos was stable, alert and responsive with full movement. Ramos added that his fighter is undergoing standard tests and will need rest, but expects him to speak publicly soon.

The freak finish 1:38 into the fifth round snapped a five-fight win streak for Barcelos. All three judges had him up 39-37 after four rounds. Some observers have argued the fight should have gone to the scorecards for a decision rather than being ruled a TKO win for Rosas Jr.

Ramos thanked supporters for their messages and said Barcelos showed his skill and heart before the collapse. No timeline has been given for when the Brazilian will be cleared to return.
