Barboza On Possible Retirement After UFC 330

Edson Barboza isn't thinking about retirement ahead of UFC 330, but the veteran featherweight knows the end could be near.

Barboza faces Esteban Ribovics in Chicago this weekend, and at 40 years old, the longtime UFC staple acknowledged the finish line is getting closer. "I'm just enjoying the moment, because I know the finish line is getting closer," he told MMA Fighting. "It's like when you're running a marathon and your body is in the final stretch and the finish line is right there."

Barboza's Future Depends On Feel After Ribovics Fight

The Brazilian said he isn't looking past Saturday. "This next fight could be the finish line, man. I don't know," Barboza said, per the outlet. "If I feel good, if I want to continue, which is the most important thing, and if I'm physically in good shape to keep going, I'll keep going."

Barboza debuted in the UFC in 2010 and has fought a who's who of lightweights and featherweights over 15 years. He said he's at peace with whatever comes next. "If I wanted to retire today, I could definitely put my head on the pillow and sleep peacefully because I know I gave my best and did everything I was supposed to do," he said.

UFC 330 takes place Saturday at the United Center in Chicago with Islam Makhachev defending the welterweight title against Ian Machado Garry in the main event.
