Bam Rodriguez talks Inoue, Nakatani on Mr. Verzace Podcast
Junior bantamweight titleholder Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez sat down for the Mr. Verzace Podcast to address his future at 118 pounds and the possibility of facing two of boxing's most dangerous punchers.
Rodriguez, who defends his title June 13, told the podcast he has weighed the option of moving up to bantamweight permanently after the fight, according to The Ring. The San Antonio native explored what his ceiling might be at the higher weight and whether he sees himself campaigning there long-term.
Rodriguez on Inoue and Nakatani fights
The conversation turned to Naoya Inoue and Junto Nakatani, the two fighters most often mentioned as ideal opponents for Rodriguez. He discussed both men's recent performances at Ring V and whether he would pursue either matchup if the circumstances aligned.
Rodriguez also spoke about the motivation that comes from coach Robert Garcia's public praise, noting the pressure of being considered a pound-for-pound talent. He traced his path from his earliest days in the gym to his current standing as one of the sport's brightest young champions.
The full episode is available now. Rodriguez's next defence is scheduled for June 13, after which his bantamweight plans will become clearer.
