Smith Faces $500K Bond After Domestic Violence Arrest
Former UFC heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith is being held on $500,000 bond following his arrest on domestic violence charges in Sarpy County, Nebraska.
Smith faces charges of first-degree false imprisonment, terroristic threats and domestic violence causing bodily injury, according to Sherdog. Court documents allege Smith was removed from a concert the night before the incident and later threatened to kill his wife when she refused to leave with him. Prosecutors say he then forced her into a vehicle.
Witnesses Report Gunshots From Smith's Home
Smith's wife reportedly exited the vehicle at one point, after which the retired fighter allegedly attempted to run her over multiple times, per the charging documents. Witnesses who assisted Smith's wife and children told investigators they heard gunshots coming from inside the residence.
A Sarpy County judge ordered Smith held without contact with his wife. "Lionheart" retired from the UFC last year on a three-fight losing streak and returned to competition this past April with a submission victory at a Bareknuckle MMA event.
