Andrade Vows To Bounce Back After The Benavidez Loss

Demetrius Andrade is ready to bounce back following his loss to David Benavidez.

The two-weight world champion was stopped following six rounds after his corner threw in the towel in a fight where Andrade was dominated after a promising start. The opening two rounds had shown that Andrade was capable of boxing and moving around as Benavidez had to wait patiently to pick his moments.

Although that may have been the case, the failure to get Benavidez to respect his power ultimately told. As the Mexican Monster connected with his right hand in round three, that is when things changed. The following round saw Benavidez land with that same right hand once again, but this time, Andrade hit the canvas.

Thereafter, Benavidez applied the pressure to get the stoppage, which has now resulted in calls for him to face Canelo Alvarez. As for Andrade, it is back to the drawing board after having come up short in his first major fight. And yet, the American was remaining positive for the future.

Andrade’s Response

"I appreciate the opportunity to engage in a challenging battle. Every fight, win or lose, fuels my love for the sport of boxing, and I’m determined to rise again. A special thank you to Showtime Boxing, Premierboxing, and Benavidez for the experience. Now, it’s time to reload, stay motivated, and prepare for the next battle. #itsmeagain," Andrade said

This naturally begs the question: Who could Andrade face next? Well, there are still other big names in the division that could make sense. Caleb Plant and David Morrell Jr. are some of the fights that could be made, given that both of them do not possess any belts, much like Andrade.

Outside of that, the target for Benavidez is Canelo. The Mexican Monster has previously stated that he will move up to 175 pounds if the fight with Alvarez cannot be made. Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev are the two targets in the light heavyweight division since neither of them possess any belts. While getting the Alvarez fight has proved difficult, Shawn Porter felt that the Mexican did not need Canelo.

Benavidez-Canelo

"I think it was supposed to be both Charlo brothers. He [Canelo] was not supposed to lose those, and then you look forward to head what’s next. I truly think the world wants Benavidez on Canelo’s list, but I don’t think Benavidez is on Canelo’s list. It’s too much. Benavidez don’t need [Canelo]. Sometimes, you are that much better than somebody, and nobody needs to see it. Sometimes, you’re that good, and people don’t need to see it. We know that’s probably the biggest money fight that he [Benavidez] could have, but I just think that he’s better, he’s stronger, and he’s got too much youth. He’s got too much experience, and he’s got too much health,” Porter stated

The next steps for Benavidez and Andrade will be crucial moving forward. And with both fighters heading in different directions, it is vital that the next fight leads to progression. So how will it pan out? Time will tell.
