Natasha Jonas vs. Lauren Price's Mindset Ahead Of Unification

Natasha Jonas boxes Lauren Price in a unification welterweight fight on March 7, as the pair had gave fans an insight into their upcoming match up.

The fight takes place from the Royal Albert Hall, as Jonas defends her IBF and WBC Welterweight Titles. Jonas unified after beating Ivana Habazin to secure the WBC belt. It was the second time that Jonas had unified a division following the same achievement at 154 pounds. After the win, Price joined Jonas in the ring as the pair indicated their intention to box each other in their next fight.

Price fought on the same card as Jonas-Habazin against Bexcy Mateus. She came out with a stoppage win, as she retained her WBA, IBO and Ring Magazine Belts. The winner of Jonas-Price goes closer to fighting for the Undisputed Welterweight Title, as Mikaela Mayer holds the final belt in the form of the WBO. Here is what Jonas and Price had to say during their roundtable face-off.

Mindset

“I’ve wanted the Jonas fight for a long time. I was pleased and I’m excited more than anything to box and put on a performance,” Price

[And] I didn’t know I was in a race. I didn’t know I was getting chased, but I understand, like I said before, I understand why she’s chasing me because I’m a big thing for her. I just don’t feel the same the other way around,” Jonas

“Tasha, it’s nothing personal. It’s just a fight that made sense. She doesn’t want this fight and I don’t blame her, but at the end of the day, we are both world champions and, you know, I believe that the best should fight the best,” Price

“I think she’s had a good career. I just think she hasn’t stepped up on paper but not to anyone of my level,” Jonas

“I’m a world champion within seven fights. I’m an Olympic champion, the most decorated amateur to come out of Great Britain, and I’m just getting started,” Price

“[She has] experience. What she’s done in the game. But not too tough because I’m going to come out on top,” Price

Further Quotes

“I mean, like she wants the Taylor fight. She loses to me, does she retire? Personally, I think she should, but that’s not on me to say. If it was me, like I’ve said, I’m not going to be boxing at her age. I’m in the sport to win as much money as I can, create a legacy, create greatness, become a multi-weight world champion, and get out safe,” Price

“All the pressure is on her to win. She’s the young, fast, you know, whatever she says she is, and she’s expected to win. You know, it’s supposed to be a passing of the torch kind of fight, where the one that’s just at the end, they’re passing it over to the one just getting started. But we’ll see,” Jonas

“I expect a tough fight, a good fight, but I think the biggest thing in this fight that will show will be my skill and my speed,” Price

“Expect a tough fight. Its elite level, all fights will be close, and that’s why you see a lot of discrepancies with who people believe won fights and stuff, because ultimately, there’s not that much in the rounds because we are so technically good,” Jonas
