Jaron 'Boots' Ennis gets his second chance at becoming a unified champion when he challenges Xander Zayas for the welterweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super welterweight titles on June 27.

Ennis told DAZN he sparred with Canelo Alvarez during camp but declined to offer details about the sessions. "I don't speak on sparring, I'm not one of them type of guys," he said, per Bad Left Hook. "As long as I'm doing the things I'm supposed to be doing and working on the things I'm supposed to be working on, all that sparring — who did this, who did that — it don't really mean nothing to me."

Ennis rates Zayas higher than Vergil Ortiz

The Philadelphia fighter described himself as a boxer-puncher with the skills to fight inside, outside, or at mid-range. When asked to compare Zayas to former opponent Vergil Ortiz, Ennis said the Puerto Rican titleholder has more tools and boxes better, though he considers Ortiz the superior fighter overall. "Xander is not a bad fighter, he solid. He unified champ, you can't take nothing away from him," Ennis said. "But on fight night them belts are coming back to Philadelphia, straight like that."

Ennis previously held a welterweight title before moving up to 154 pounds. A win over Zayas would make him a unified champion in a second weight class and cement his status among the top fighters in Philadelphia boxing history.

The Ennis-Zayas card airs live on DAZN from a venue yet to be announced.
