Natasha Jonas And Mikaela Mayer Make Weight For Their IBF Title Fight

Natasha Jonas and Mikaela Mayer hit the scales for their IBF Welterweight Title fight tomorrow from Liverpool, England.

Jonas fights in front of her home crowd as she puts her IBF Title on the line. The Brit secured the belt after stopping Kandi Wyatt, which made her a two-division champion. Jonas has won her last five fights, which has solidified her position as one of Britain’s best, having unified the Junior Middleweight Division. Jonas weighed 146 pounds for the fight.

Mayer is chasing her own history. She is the ex-Super Featherweight Champion after beating Ewa Brodnicka for the WBO Belt. She then unified by picking up the IBF and Ring Magazine Belts with a win over Maiva Hamadouche. That ended with a loss to Alycia Baumgardner, but a win against Jonas makes her a two-division champ. Mayer came in at 146. 3 pounds.

“The home advantage is always big, that’s why fighters opt to fight in their home cities, to get that support and motivation behind them. Without winning on Saturday, they [legacy fights] don’t happen so I have to concentrate. I want to be able to say when I hung up the gloves that I was one of the best of this era. To do that you’ve got to be beating names on the top 10 pound-for-pound list and Mikaela Mayer is one of the names on it,” Jones said

“I feel great. [Making weight] is still tough for me. It shows how naturally big I am. I carry a lot in my height and frame. I still had to diet and cut for this but it wasn’t as long as strenuous,” Mayer revealed
