McGregor Calls Jake Paul A ‘Dweeb,’ Says He’ll ‘Slap’ Topuria During BKFC Presser
Conor McGregor wants to fight in BKFC once he finishes with the UFC.
The Notorious made his comments while he was speaking at a BKFC Spain press conference. McGregor is a part-owner of the franchise, as life his future after the UFC unfolds. However, he still has two fights left on his UFC contract. He was scheduled to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29.
It would have been McGregor’s first fight since losing Dustin Poirier in 2021 at UFC 264. He suffered a broken leg against Poirier, while a toe injury prevented him from fighting Chandler. That has kept McGregor from the spotlight for now, as he plans to return by September. But according to Ariel Helwani, McGregor could fight on December 14. In the meantime, McGregor is looking ahead to his future with a possible BKFC fight.
McGregor’s Quotes
“For me, I’ve got a bit of business left with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, two fights left on my contract. But for sure we have three lightweights up here and I have my eye on all of this. I’m not here up here just as a knower, player-manager I’d title myself on this. That’s me. I am coming to the end of my contract. I have two fights left. This is a very, very exciting organization here. How could you not?
“How could you not look to become a two-sport world champion in something as wild as a bareknuckle fighting organization. We’ve got the money, too. We’ve got the dough. This is big payouts here, also – big pay, big shows, big news, and a coveted world title in a wild and dangerous game. For any real fighter out there, that’s all you want to hear. Money, power, respect – Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship has it all,” McGregor said
McGregor On Topuria
McGregor then took some time to hit out at his fellow combat sport competitors. He referred to Jake Paul as a ‘dweeb’ as he put his full support behind Mike Perry. Perry is the face of BKFC, with a 5-0 record. McGregor has boxed himself, having faced Floyd Mayweather in 2017. While he was stopped, McGregor backed Perry in doing what was necessary.
McGregor then lashed out at UFC Featherweight Champion Ilia Topuria. He felt he would overpower the champion since McGregor fights at a heavier weight at 170. McGregor’s comments suggested he would be open to a bare-knuckle bout with the biggest names. He urged fighters who were free agents to consider BKFC.
“You know, Ilia, Spanish-Georgian lad, he’s not bad. He’s got a boxing-heavy style, he would certainly land well in Bare-knuckle Fighting Championship. I’d slap him around, he’s too small. I’m a big lad to compare to Ilia, but he’s not bad. He’s a current UFC world champion, and all these guys, make no mistake about it, are looking at this. So, if you’re asking, it would be King Kong if you’re asking me,” McGregor added
