Lennox Lewis Warns Fury To Prepare Well For Usyk

Lennox Lewis has warned Tyson Fury about taking his preparation seriously for his fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

The comments arrived in the aftermath of his fight with Francis Ngannou on October 28th, 2023. During the course of that process, Fury struggled to deal with the MMA fighter who was making his boxing debut. The latter sent Fury to the canvas in round three, as he continued to fight until the final bell.

Although Fury got a split-decision win, some in the boxing community felt that he came second best. Carl Froch was very vocal about the fact that the decision was corruption ‘at the highest level.’ In the aftermath of the fight, Fury dismissed suggestions that he had taken his opponent lightly. But for Lewis, he made it clear to the boxer that nothing short of perfection would be enough to beat Usyk.

Lewis On Fury

“I think both Fury and Ngannou surprised everyone, but for two different reasons. Fury looked nothing like the man in the trilogy against Wilder. Ngannou by far exceeded most ppl’s expectations. Basically, Ngannou won the night. Fury won the fight…But i don’t think he went through a full camp either. Better not make that mistake against Usyk,” Lewis said

Those comments were backed up by Fury’s father, John Fury. The latter admitted that his son did not look like he was the fighter that he once used to be. This led to suggestions that Fury’s legs were slowing down, as John Fury felt he had seen a decline in his son.

A large part of that could be due to the fact that Fury did come through three tough fights against Deontay Wilder, as he tasted the canvas against arguably the hardest puncher in history. Not only that, but Fury has shown a tendency not to look after his body in between camps. This will be vital moving forward, particularly since Usyk appears intent on getting the win.

Vitali Klitschko On Usyk

The former heavyweight champion of the world Vitali Klitschko confirmed that Usyk did not fight on the frontline in Ukraine due to his insistence that the boxer could make a bigger difference in the ring for his country.

And given that he is the unified heavyweight champion, Usyk has the chance to become undisputed in a second weight class. The win would also make him the first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis, who beat Evander Holyfield in 1999. Not only that, but it would also allow Usyk to avenge the loss of Wladimir Klitschko to Fury.

“Alexander was in Kyiv when a full-scale war began. The fighting took place not far from the capital. Usyk took part in the defense of the territory. Later, when the enemy was driven back from Kyiv, Kharkiv, we had a long discussion. Should Usyk’s boxing career be continued? Maybe should he trade his gloves for a machine gun?” Klitschko stated

Both fighters know that a win makes them the best heavyweight of this era. And come fight night, one fighter will come up short.
