Jon Jones Charged With Two Misdemeanors

Jon Jones, the UFC Heavyweight Champion, has reportedly been charged with two misdemeanours over an altercation with a Drug Free Sport worker.

Jones is working his way back from injury after suffering a pectoral muscle problem during sparring for his bout with Stipe Miocic. The news meant Jones could not defend his title at UFC 295 as he underwent surgery. It was a huge blow as Jones had just returned to the sport after three years out to defeat Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 last March.

During his time out with injury, Jones was alleged to have threatened to kill a Drug Free Sport worker. The employee in question, Crystal Martinez, claimed Jones took her phone so she could not call the police and threatened to sue her. This was after she had gone to test Jones at his house. It is believed that Jones was intoxicated. Jones did release security footage, showing him walking Martinez and her colleague to the car as things appeared cordial. Bones then denied the allegations.

Jones Responds

“Hello everyone, I wanted to address some misinformation that has been circulating this morning . I woke up to false reports that I had been arrested . I have not been arrested. In fact, I am currently in Texas with my daughters at a volleyball tournament.

“I must admit, it’s disappointing  to have to clarify these things again , but I understand that I may be an easy target given some of my past issues. it’s important to set the record straight and make sure the truth is told .

“I was recently visited by testers while I was celebrating a birthday and taking a nap. Upon waking up, I was caught off guard by the unprofessionalism  and protocol by one of the testers which caused frustration leading me to use some profanity  I regret. However, I want to emphasize that at no point did I threaten , get in anyone’s face , raise my voice to anyone or engage in any form of assault.

“It’s unfortunate that false news has been spread without proper fact-checking. I want to assure you that I will vigorously defend myself against these baseless accusations. The truth is, the incident  simply did not occur,” Jones said

Jones’ Charges

But now Jones has been charged with two misdemeanors. This misdemeanors are assault and interference with communications. Jones will have a virtual hearing over a bond on July 17. If Jones is found guilty, he could face prison time for up to one year. He may also receive a fine of $1500. Jones has yet to address this, but it is not ideal, given his UFC aspirations.

He recently revealed that he would fight in November, although no official announcement has been made. Jones also worried fans after sharing numerous posts on X, one of which stated he was getting his ‘finger cut off’ before deleting them, which caused worry. Given the growing calls on Jones to face Tom Aspinall, the latest news is another incident where the calls on Jones to be stripped will only increase.
