Jarrell Miller Detained On Charges Of Carjacking And Burglary
Authorities reportedly apprehended Jarrell Miller on charges of carjacking and burglary.
According to ESPN, the heavyweight was arrested in Hollywood, Florida, on January 2, 2024. The fighter was taken to Broward County Jail, where he is being detained on charges of “carjacking without a firearm or weapon and burglary with assault or battery.” A bond has been set at $30,000.
Miller’s Arrest
WSVN-7 alleges Miller took a Black Dodge Ram pickup truck from Haims Motors, a dealership located in Hollywood. The boxer allegedly had help from a woman before he threw the employee on the floor and took the truck. The woman told the employee she left her phone in the car as the employee went to the vehicle. That is when Miller is claimed to have done the crime. The presence of a tracker in the car meant he was caught.
The news follows Miller’s disappointing defeat at the hands of Daniel Dubois. On the ‘The Day of Reckoning’ card in Saudi Arabia, the boxer was stopped in the tenth round. He entered the fight out of shape, hitting the scales at 333 pounds. That was a contributing factor as Miller gassed out in the later rounds before being stopped.
Miller’s career has had its fair share of controversies. He missed out on a mega fight with Anthony Joshua after failing numerous tests 2018. That prevented him from picking up a $5 million purse as Andy Ruiz Jr. stepped in. The Mexican took his opportunity to stop Joshua in a massive upset to become the unified heavyweight champion of the world.
Miller’s Personal Life
Outside of the ring, Miller has also had other changes. He recently converted to Islam as he had his first fight in Saudi Arabia. That will hinder his reputation since the conversion was seen as a fresh start in his life. The boxer was vocal about how he felt he was turning a corner at this moment.
“He [My trainer] used to wake me up at 5 o’clock in the morning to go run and I used to hate it. He’s always put positive words in my ear from the beginning. When I was going through a really bad breakup and divorce years ago, I was in a Uber car going to family court. The driver said ‘Can I play something for you?’ And I was energy down, depressed and he started playing the Qur’an, my eyes started tearing. I was balling, crying. He turned around and looked at me and said ‘brother you blessed,” Miller said
It is not precisely clear where Miller goes from here. The boxer is 35 years old and in the latter parts of his career. His defeat to Dubois showed that he was not the same fighter he was, which may have been because Miller had no adverse findings of late. Either way, the boxer needs to move on from this.
