Jaron Ennis Would ‘Beat The Hell Out Of’ Thurman – Says Shakur Stevenson

In today’s boxing news, Shakur Stevenson has backed Jaron Ennis to prove too much for Keith Thurman.

The pair have been linked with a fight following Ennis’ status as the IBF welterweight interim champion. That puts Boots in line to face Terence Crawford for all the belts at 147.

However, Bud has indicated his desire to move up from welterweight, leaving the possibility open for Boots to face Thurman. The latter had stated that he would be open to facing Ennis, provided that a contract was put on the table.

This was also on basis that Ennis would be seen as an alternative to Crawford if that fight did not go ahead. As of now, there is nothing to indicate that a bout is within the works. However, Stevenson has picked Boots to come out on top if a bout did materialise.

Stevenson On Ennis

“Me and ‘Boots,’ we came up together. We were in the amateurs together. I used to dominate the amateurs, and then you got Boots; he was another person dominating with me,” said Shakur Stevenson to MillCity Boxing, talking about welterweight phenom Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. “All the tournaments that we went to, we were fighting for the best boxer of the tournament in a lot of tournaments that we went to. We were really talking about it with each other. ‘I’m going to win’ or he’s going to win.

“Just to see him doing his thing. I’ve been knowing that ‘Boots’ is the truth. If you put him in the ring with Keith Thurman, he’s going to beat the hell out of him. Even with what Keith Thurman is saying, ‘I got to feed my family, I’ll take the fight.’ That sounds like somebody who will take the fight for the money but not take it as seriously as he should. I already know that ‘Boots’ he’ll destroy Keith Thurman,” Shakur stated

Stevenson On Shields-Thurman

That was not the only thing Shakur had to say when it came to Thurman. The fighter addressed the possibility of a bout between Claressa Shields and Thurman.

The undisputed female middleweight champion had called out Thurman for what would be the first-ever cross-gender boxing bout.

Although Thurman had verbally agreed to take on the fight, his comments were seen in jest as he vowed to only use his jab. Nevertheless, Stevenson indicated his desire to help Shields prepare for such a bout.

“Hell, yeah. I’m a little biased because I have a close relationship with Claressa. I just want to see her prevail. As far as her being a girl, there are no girls that can compete with her. There’s nothing that nobody would want to see. “They can give her any competition because she’s literally the greatest girl fighter on the planet. I would entertain it [a fight with Thurman] because it gives her more competition,” Stevenson

Thurman has never looked the same since his time as a former unified welterweight champion in 2017. But a win over Boots could change all that. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
