Isaac Cruz Rules Out Tank Davis; Wants Ryan Garcia Instead

Isaac Cruz has shut down a rematch with Gervonta Davis by turning his attention to Ryan Garcia.

Cruz and Davis’ only fight happened in 2021 which went the distance. Cruz managed to avoid being knocked out, unlike Davis’ 27 opponents in his 29 victories. Cruz’s courage to take the fight to Davis earned him praise. But the performance was questioned after Davis admitted his hand was injured during the fight.

Therefore, the unanimous decision win spoke volumes about Cruz’s lack of skills to make that advantage count. Since the fight, Cruz has been chasing a rematch. Calvin Ford had mentioned his preference for Davis to face Cruz after Tank’s recent release from prison for violating the terms of his house arrest as a segue to much bigger fights. But now Cruz has distanced himself as the focus was Garcia.

Cruz On Garcia

“This video is to clarify my next match in April. I would like to fight Ryan Garcia. I want to emphasize that both I and Ryan want the fight. “Our managers agree, and our promoters also agree. Everyone also agrees this is a great fight. The only reason this fight isn’t happening and the negotiations aren’t finished is because of Lupe Valencia.

“They haven’t agreed for it to take place. Both Ryan and I are ready and focused for the fight. The reason Guadalupe Valencia doesn’t want this fight is because of his confidence in his fighter and is looking for an easy fight.I am here to bring trouble for his career. To everyone, Isaac Cruz is ready to beat him in the ring,” Cruz said

Garcia On Cruz

The chances of the fight happening are very slim. Garcia was linked with fighting Devin Haney following the latter’s victory over Regis Prograis to become the WBC 140-pound champion. Oscar De La Hoya was confident about making the fight in March since they both had fought on DAZN.

But that all changed as Garcia indicated his desire to fight Rolando Romero for the WBA title at 140. Should Garcia come out victorious, a fight with Cruz makes no sense. Cruz has no belts, while the Haney fight would be a much bigger unification with Garcia’s belt. Based on Garcia’s previous comments, it appears that Cruz’s team had turned down the chance to make the fight.

“If anyone wanted the full interview, this is Isaac Cruz manager [Sean Gibbons] making an excuse after excuse on why he can’t, no mention on how we can figure something out,” said Ryan Garcia on Twitter. “I’m very frustrated. I’m trying to get this fight done, and I see this interview. There’s a way, and they simply don’t want to do it. I tried to give you guys a fight that you wanted. It’s not in my hands anymore,” Ryan Garcia stated

Cruz faces a tough task to get the Garcia fight as he will have to move up to 140 to make it happen. And getting a fight with Garcia in his first bout at the weight class is unlikely.
