Holm Dominates Vega On Her Boxing Return

Holly Holm, the former UFC Bantamweight Champion, made a successful return to boxing by beating the undefeated Mexican Yolanda Vega.
Holm secured a one-sided unanimous decision win on the Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. card. Holm had not had a boxing fight since 2013 when she faced Mary McGee to secure a unanimous decision win. Holm dominated the fight early on, landing her shots while staying out of range. Despite Holm being much older at 43, she was able to hurt the more youthful 30-year-old Vega.
Vega only had one knockout in her ten wins coming into this fight, which showed as she was unable to keep Holm off her. Vega hit the canvas in the fifth after more pressure from Holm, although it was declared a slip. Holm was able to utilize her range and jab to keep Vega at bay as she coasted to a win. The scorecards had it as follows: 100-90, 100-90 and 100-90. Cris Cyborg was in attendance, as Holm has turned her attention to securing a world title.
Reaction
“I really loved MMA for a while but then I started feeling this growing pain of wanting to box again. It’s been fun to get back and just kind of get that boxing going again. I wanted to finish early but also I didn’t mind feeling 10 rounds because I do wanna fight for a title and I know the other girls are going to keep getting tougher. It was a great fight tonight, she’s undefeated fighter so I was glad to be up against somebody that’s tough and put my skills to the test and see how it feels again,” Holm said
“My mind isn’t racing but I definitely think about it [fighting Taylor or Serrano]. The way that you get to that is by seeing what’s inside of you. Right now Yolanda is in front of me and that is what I’m focused on, with a victory then I can do this or that. There are long terms goals but the ones that are in front of me are what I focus on the most,” Holm stated
