Eddie Hearn has reacted to Alycia Baumgardner’s failed test for Mesterolone and Methenolone.

According to reports, the undisputed junior lightweight champion’s adverse finding emerged when a urine test on July 12th, 2023, was conducted.

This just so happened to be three days prior to the boxer’s win over Christina Linardatou. While that may have been the case, Baumgardner was adamant that she would do everything to clear up the situation.

Baumgardner’s Comments

“To be abundantly clear, I know that I never have, never would, and never will take this or any other drug. Not only would doing so be unethical, but it would also be completely contrary to how I’ve trained my entire career.

“As a professional athlete, I and I alone am responsible for what I put in my body, and my body is a temple. I am also a proud role model for any young woman or girl who seeks to follow in my footsteps.

“I take those responsibilities very seriously -which is why I know that I did not and would never put these substances in my body. I plan to keep you all updated every step of the way as I work to ensure my reputation as a clean athlete remains fully intact,” Baumgardner

And given that Hearn has seen three fighters who have worked with Matchroom test positive recently, Conor Benn, Dillian Whyte and now Baumgardner, the promoter was hopeful that the boxer could prove her innocence.

Hearn On Baumgardner

“Alycia Baumgardner, who we’ve represented for a long time, she had a test on one side of it that she passed and she had a test a couple of days later on fight night that she passed. But still, she has to explain herself in this process. And we’ll support her in this process, and I hope that she can prove her innocence here, absolutely,” Hearn said

The sport of boxing clearly has to make changes to tackle the issue of performance-enhancing drugs. Therefore, the boxing authorities may have to tackle this issue with bans to set a precedent moving forward.

After all, if nothing does change moving forward, then the sport of boxing will only suffer. And with the rise of the UFC, there are increasing number of fans switching sports. And there is no getting away from that.
