Haney And Garcia Rematch Much Closer After Major Update

A Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia rematch is a lot closer after both fighters agreed to major conditions.

They faced off last April as Garcia came through with a majority decision victory. It was one of the biggest upsets in recent memory. But the result was turned into a no-contest once Garcia tested positive for Ostarine. He was subsequently banned for a year, meaning he could not box professionally until April 2025. There have been calls for a rematch. But there have been some major sticking points. Haney’s camp wants Garcia to use VADA testing.

However, Ryan has said that he would like to use any other organization due to his dissatisfaction with VADA. He argued that he did not take any substances intentionally and that the amount in his system was not enough to enhance performance. Ryan has also reacted by saying that he wants Haney to drop his lawsuit. Haney sued Garcia for fraud, breach of contract, and unjust enrichment. Ryan responded by filing a countersuit. Garcia said that the lawsuit needs to go before there can be any talks.

Garcia Reacts

“No. The only way he’s going to get any respect is to fight me again and try to do better. So I could see why he would (want rematch) but for me, I don’t know. I mean that interests me for sure, I would be down to do a rematch but a lot of things need to play out the way I need them to play out.

“First and foremost he needs to drop the lawsuit if he even wants to have a conversation about it. To me, I thought that was a weak move by him and now he wants to backtrack and say that’s how he’s going to get it back but before he was saying different. But I’m ready to fight him, I already fought him and beat him,” Garcia said

Will It Happen?

Bill Haney reacted to those stipulations by arguing that Ryan is simply trying to avoid his son. But now, according to reports, the two fighters have made those concessions, which means that a rematch would be easier to make. The fight could easily sell out in the United States, whilst there are also suggestions that it could appear in Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom has said that they want to make that fight as they have the ability to provide the fighters lucrative sums.

Haney reportedly earned $35 million from the first fight, while Garcia allegedly earned $50 million. The rematch is even bigger, meaning that it would generate more sums. The pair will likely want one more fight before facing off in the ring. Garcia said that he could fight Teofimo Lopez next. Meanwhile, Haney is scheduled to be back in March. Current reports suggest that he will fight Adrien Broner, who is a four-weight world champion. If the pair survive those prospective fights, they could face off next.
