Gervonta Davis Vs. Lamont Roach Jr. Predictions – ‘This Is The Tank Protection Program’

Gervonta Davis defends his WBA Lightweight Title against Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1, as boxing insiders gave their predictions.
Davis makes the second defense of his WBA belt. He stopped Frank Martin in his last fight, extending his record to 30-0. Davis has said he will fight three times this year after which he will announce his retirement. That has led to suggestions that Davis will want the biggest and most lucrative fights before he walks away. Bouts with Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson could follow. Roach is the WBA champion at 130. He beat Hector Garcia to secure the belt. Garcia also moved up to face Tank. But the latter stopped him, leading some to believe Davis will do the same to Roach. Here is how boxing pros saw the fight playing out.
Davis Vs. Roach Predictions
“I think Lamont Roach is a terrific fighter, he might be a little over his head with Gervonta Davis. Gervonta Davis is, I mean, to say the least. He’s a beast. He really is. He’s [Gervonta Davis] a tremendous fighter. He’s a dedicated fighter when it comes to training and fighting and making sure that he’s in optimal conditions when he steps inside that squared circle. It’s gonna be a tough night for Roach, but you can never count him out,” Oscar De La Hoya said
“I mean, like, he’s [Tank is] a bad man. He can fight. He’s tough. I know we had our back and forth or whatever, but at the end of the day, if we talk about just boxing, hey, absolutely. So I don’t know why everybody’s kind of sleeping on Lamont, but he has a decorated amateur career too. He’s a very sturdy kid. He’s very skilled. Tank is Tank. And when I say Tank is Tank, I mean like he’s a bad man. He can fight. He’s tough,” Claressa Shields
More Predictions
“This dude looks like a total fraud. Put him in the ring with someone that can punch back. This is the Tank Protection Program. This has been going along for a long time, people. Bringing fighters up from a lower weight class to get in there with Tank. Tank looks spectacular, but it’s a cover-up,” Tim Bradley
“You know what I’m saying? They’re about to put him with a guy at 130 lbs. Whether he’s a champion or not, you’re getting a guy lighter than you to come up in weight to make you look good,” Teofimo Lopez
“It is going to be a great technical fight. Tank is a defensive genius. He knows how to protect himself and knows ways to maneuver. He came up in that same type of environment as Tank. They both are DMV fighters. It’s not just like Tank is just picking out a bum. Lamont probably knows how to fight more than a lot of guys Tank fought. They both boxed each other numerous times, and I think that a lot of people are riding Lamont off because of his one loss to Jamel Herring,” Richardson Hitchins
