Gervonta Davis Mocks Teofimo Lopez’s Contract Struggles

Gervonta Davis mocked Teofimo Lopez as the latter tried desperately to get out of his Top Rank contract.
Lopez is the current WBO Junior Welterweight Champion. He defended the belt successfully against Steve Claggett in his last fight. He called out Terence Crawford for a fight. That would have required Lopez to move up to 154 pounds. However, Crawford was reluctant to take that fight, saying he is keen on facing Canelo Alvarez at 168 pounds. That left Lopez with a decision to make.
He recently requested to know what the buy-out clause is for in his contract. Bob Arum has previously criticized Lopez for his comments, saying he chose to sign a contract extension for his Sandor Martin fight. Teo could have easily left at that point. The Takeover recently posted a skit of himself begging for money, showing he wanted out of his contract. Tank responded by reminding Lopez of an older post where he said he would be the richest fighter.
Tank Reacts
“I have a video on my phone of him saying he was going to be the most paid 135 lbs. He is just talking out his ass Crazy how things play out, and his ass is starting to look like a light skin Squidward,” Tank said
Tank also has questions to answer about his future. Davis has said he will retire at the end of 2025. His aim was to fight three times a year. But that has earned him a lot of criticism. His biggest win has been over Ryan Garcia, who was weight-drained at 136 pounds. The fight also had a ten-pound rehydration clause.
Tank Vs. Lopez
His upcoming fight is against Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1. But the opponent has not gone down well. Roach will move up from 130, making him a bug underdog. Davis also said the fight was off, only for Roach to say otherwise. Facing Lopez could shut down those detractors. But Teo has claimed that Davis is ducking him.
“They are all food, that’s what it is. Lomachenko was dessert, George Kambosos Jr is going to be breakfast, and Haney is dinner, and we’ll see who’s lunch at 140lbs. When I beat Kambosos and when I knock out Devin… if Teofimo goes to 140lbs and [Gervonta] Davis is going to be back at 135. There’s a pattern here. He’s avoiding me and he was avoiding Lomachenko. I get what’s happening. He’s going to be a three time interim champion at three different divisions. It’s cute. Everybody’s got a job to do. Devin Haney accomplished his – he can boast about it. Now it’s my turn, then it’s Tank Davis’ turn. I’m not dodging nobody,” Lopez said
Lopez and Tank’s next fights are crucial. If they both win, they could both be on course to face each other.
