Garcia Wants Teofimo Lopez After Haney – ‘We’re Going To Break The Internet’
Ryan Garcia wants to take on Teofimo Lopez provided he beats Devin Haney.
Garcia and Haney face off on April 20 after months of negotiations. Garcia initially pulled the plug on the fight after deciding to pursue a bout with Rolando Romero. Those talks broke down after Romero signed a contract to fight Isaac Cruz. That left Garcia short of an opponent, as he returned to the negotiation table before signing to face Haney.
The fight will be Garcia’s second PPV, following his first against Gervonta Davis. That fight did not go his way, as he was stopped in the seventh round. Garcia blamed the 136-pound catchweight and ten-pound rehydration clause for hindering him. But now that he is at 140 pounds, he won’t have this excuse. He has backed himself to beat Haney with Teo in his sights.
Garcia On Lopez
“After I beat Haney, I’d kind of like to fight Teofimo. I think that’s my next one. We’re going to break the Internet even more. We’re going to break the Internet even more. He’s weak when he gets touched. He remembers what I did to him. I barely know what he did. He doesn’t even hit hard. He won by points, and when I won, he got f**** up. There’s a difference. When I hit him, I had his a** rocked many times,” Garcia stated
Nevertheless, it is essential to bear in mind the following. They have fought each other six times in the amateurs, with the record at 3-3. Since neither of them got the better of each other, the bout is clearly evenly matched. There is also the argument that the amateur and professional ranks are different. Both fighters have developed since then, showing that the tactics required to win will differ. Haney clarified that, stating he has improved the most since the amateurs.
“Ryan has always been a good fighter since we were kids but I feel like over time I’ve grown past him, got a lot better, where Ryan kind of stayed the same. And that’s for me to show on April 20,” Haney stated
Lopez On Crawford
While Garcia’s plan is to face Lopez, the latter is focused on Terence Crawford. The Takeover has already called out Bud for a fight at 147. The WBO Junior Welterweight Champion argued the fight made more sense than Crawford facing Canelo Alvarez.
Lopez would have to jump up one weight class, while Bud would be moving up three. He also slammed Crawford’s biggest wins against Kell Brook, Errol Spence Jr., and Jose Benavidez Jr. Teo alleged all three fighters were not fully healthy coming into the bout, thus discrediting his resume. Now, Lopez has upped the ante by criticising Crawford’s style.
“Crawford is a human, just like me. We bleed the same. He’s just uglier. That motherf— is ugly. Ugly, f— ugly. I don’t know how this man gets…he’s ugly. Sh!t. He even fights ugly. I’ll be real with y’all,” Lopez revealed
