Professional Career
Ricardo Malajika’s professional boxing career has been marked by impressive victories and significant accomplishments since his debut on October 21, 2018, at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park. In his first professional fight, Malajika defeated Nkululeko Mnisi by knockout in the first round, showcasing his power and skill. He continued his winning streak by securing another first-round TKO against Tebogo Makwala on December 8, 2018, at the same venue.
Malajika’s early career was characterized by a series of dominant performances. On February 24, 2019, he won a unanimous decision against Andile Cindi, demonstrating his ability to go the distance and maintain his composure in longer bouts. His knockout power was again on display when he defeated Arnel Lubisi in the first round on June 8, 2019. Malajika’s string of victories continued with a sixth-round TKO over Layten Gloss on August 23, 2019, and an eighth-round TKO against Mnqobi Mkhize on November 30, 2019, solidifying his reputation as a formidable force in the ring.
However, Malajika faced challenges as well. On March 14, 2021, he suffered a split decision loss to Sabelo Ngebinyana, marking the first setback of his career. Despite this, he bounced back with a first-round knockout victory over Khayalethu Mbedje on September 25, 2021. Another tough loss followed on April 9, 2022, when he was defeated by Sikho Nqothole by unanimous decision.
Malajika’s resilience shone through as he continued to rebuild his career with notable victories. On September 17, 2022, he defeated Arnel Lubisi by TKO in the second round. He then secured an eighth-round TKO win against Sihle Jelwana on December 10, 2022. One of his significant achievements came on March 18, 2023, when he stopped Adrian Lerasan in the fifth round at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park. His career reached a new high on September 2, 2023, when Malajika won the vacant IBO World Super Flyweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Kevin Luis Munoz.
