Professional Career

Butaev embarked on his professional journey on March 25, 2016, making a strong statement with a first-round knockout against Robert Alexander Seyam at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma. This debut showcased his power, setting the stage for a series of victories that would define his early career. Butaev quickly built a reputation for his knockout power, claiming wins with decisive finishes against opponents such as TyKeem Sadler and Jonathan Batista, both of whom were stopped within the early rounds. His ability to dominate continued as he claimed the vacant WBC-NABF super-welterweight title with a unanimous decision over Gabor Gorbics on November 19, 2016, at Foxwoods Resort in Connecticut, demonstrating his skill over longer bouts as well.

A pivotal moment in Butaev’s career came on November 30, 2019, during a bout against Alexander Besputin for the vacant WBA (Regular) and EBP welterweight titles. Originally a unanimous decision loss, the fight was later ruled a no contest after Besputin failed a drug test. This turn of events kept Butaev’s record relatively unblemished and highlighted the challenges of maintaining integrity in the sport.

Butaev’s resilience and determination bore fruit on October 30, 2021, when he captured the WBA (Regular) welterweight title by stopping Jamal James in the ninth round at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Paradise, Nevada. This victory was a testament to his growth and ability to perform under pressure, securing him a spot among the top welterweights globally. However, his reign as champion faced a setback when he lost the title to Eimantas Stanionis by split decision on April 16, 2022, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This bout was a closely contested match that demonstrated Butaev’s fighting spirit and his capability to compete against top-tier opponents.

Most recently, on November 6, 2023, Butaev returned to the ring in triumphant fashion, defeating Fazliddin Gaibnazarov by a retirement in the third round at the Red Arena in Krasnaya Polyana, Russia. This victory marked a significant comeback, showing that Butaev remains a powerful force in the welterweight division.
