Biography

Early Life and Amateur Career

 

Hamzah Sheeraz was born on May 25, 1999, in Slough, England, into a family with a strong boxing tradition. Growing up in a close-knit community, Sheeraz was inspired by his uncle, who was a professional boxer. Encouraged by his family, he started boxing at the age of eight. His early training took place at the Dale Youth Boxing Club in London, a gym known for producing talented fighters. Sheeraz quickly stood out for his height, reach, and natural ability, showing promise from a young age. Sheeraz’s amateur career was marked by significant achievements and notable victories. He competed in various local and national tournaments, establishing himself as one of the top prospects in British amateur boxing. One of his early notable successes came in 2015 when he won the Junior ABA Championships, a prestigious tournament that showcased his potential and put him on the radar of boxing enthusiasts and scouts.

 

In 2016, Sheeraz continued to build on his success by winning the England Boxing Youth Championships. His performances in these national tournaments earned him a spot on the England youth boxing team, where he represented his country in international competitions. Competing at the European Youth Championships, Sheeraz gained valuable experience against top-tier opponents from across the continent, further honing his skills and building his reputation. Another significant milestone in Sheeraz’s amateur career was his participation in the World Youth Championships. Although he did not win a medal, his performances were commendable and demonstrated his ability to compete on the global stage.

 

Professional Career

 

Sheeraz made his professional debut on September 16, 2017, at the Copper Box Arena in London, securing a second-round TKO victory over Duane Green. This debut victory set the tone for Sheeraz’s career, showcasing his aggressive style and knockout power. Sheeraz quickly climbed the ranks, accumulating an impressive string of victories. By the end of 2019, he had already established himself as a formidable force in the light-middleweight division. His win over Ryan Kelly on November 30, 2019, at the Arena Birmingham, where he secured a sixth-round TKO, earned him the vacant WBO European light-middleweight title. This victory marked a significant milestone in his career, demonstrating his ability to compete for and win titles.

 

In 2020 and 2021, Sheeraz continued to defend his WBO European light-middleweight title successfully. Notable defenses included a tenth-round TKO over Guido Nicolás Pitto on November 28, 2020, and a ninth-round TKO against Bradley Skeete on December 4, 2021. His relentless performance in the ring earned him a step up to the middleweight division, where he captured the vacant WBC International Silver middleweight title by defeating Jez Smith with a second-round TKO on March 19, 2022, at Wembley Arena in London.

 

Sheeraz’s momentum only grew as he moved into the middleweight division, securing the vacant WBC Silver middleweight title with a fifth-round TKO victory over Francisco Emanuel Torres on July 16, 2022, at the Copper Box Arena. He further solidified his dominance with a series of impressive wins, including a second-round TKO against River Wilson-Bent on November 26, 2022, to capture the vacant Commonwealth middleweight title. In 2023, Sheeraz continued to demonstrate his prowess, retaining his WBC Silver middleweight title with a second-round TKO against Dmytro Mytrofanov on August 26 in Wrocław, Poland. His rapid rise in the division culminated in a stunning first-round TKO victory over Liam Williams on February 10, 2024, at the Copper Box Arena, further retaining his titles and showcasing his ability to dismantle top-tier opponents quickly.

 

Most recently, on June 1, 2024, Sheeraz faced Austin Williams at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In a highly anticipated bout, Sheeraz delivered a dominant performance, securing an eleventh-round TKO to retain his WBC Silver middleweight title. With a perfect professional record of 20 wins and no losses, Sheeraz has firmly established himself as a rising star in the middleweight division, known for his knockout power and relentless pursuit of victory.
