David Jimenez began his professional career on February 16, 2019, with a third-round knockout victory over Emmanuel Villamar at Parque Las Ruinas in Cartago, Costa Rica. Jimenez quickly built momentum, racking up a series of impressive wins, including knockout victories against opponents like Edwin Javier Ortiz and Marcos Arrieta, demonstrating his power and precision in the ring.
By June 19, 2021, Jimenez had already claimed his first significant title, the vacant WBA Gold World flyweight title, with a third-round knockout of Edwin Cano at the Gimnasio Fight Club in San Jose, Costa Rica. This victory was a turning point in his career, solidifying his status as a rising star in the flyweight division. His success continued with a unanimous decision win over Jerson Ortiz on February 18, 2021, at the Hotel El Panama in Panama City, Panama, where he captured the vacant WBC Latino flyweight title.
Jimenez’s career reached new heights on July 16, 2022, when he defeated Ricardo Rafael Sandoval by majority decision at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. This win set the stage for his first world title shot against Artem Dalakian for the WBA flyweight title on January 28, 2023, at the OVO Arena Wembley in London, United Kingdom. Despite a valiant effort, Jimenez lost by unanimous decision, marking his first professional defeat.
Undeterred, Jimenez bounced back with a series of victories, including a stoppage win over Rosendo Guarneros to claim the vacant WBC Latino flyweight title on July 21, 2023, and a knockout of Ganigan López on January 19, 2024, in Alajuela, Costa Rica. His impressive form continued as he secured a unanimous decision win over Pablo Macario on February 23, 2024, at the Parque de la Industria in Guatemala City, Guatemala. On April 20, 2024, Jimenez achieved a significant milestone in his career by winning the vacant interim WBA super flyweight title with a unanimous decision victory over John Ramirez at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
