Professional Career

 

Carlos Cañizales, a Venezuelan professional boxer, has established a notable career with a series of impressive victories and some challenging losses. His journey began on July 4, 2014, with a first-round TKO win over Edicson Fuenmayor at El Velodromo Teo Capriles in Caracas, Venezuela. Cañizales quickly made a name for himself with subsequent wins, including a third-round TKO against Yosman Rengifo on October 11, 2014, at Polideportivo de Corinsa in Cagua, Venezuela, and another third-round TKO over Vicente Mirabal on December 13, 2014, in Valle de la Pascua, Venezuela.

 

Cañizales continued his winning streak into 2015 with a series of dominant performances. He scored a first-round KO against Nelson Magallanes on January 31 at Estadio de Beisbol de Barranquita and followed it up with a first-round TKO over Geraid Benites on February 21 at Plaza El Urbanismo in Caracas. His victories included a third-round TKO against Efren Luces on March 7 and a first-round TKO over Vicente Mirabal on March 28, both at Centro Recreacional Yesterday in Turmero, Venezuela.

 

He further demonstrated his prowess with a third-round TKO against Edicson Fuenmayor on May 9, 2015, and a first-round TKO over Kendry Perez on June 20 at Hotel Alba in Caracas. On October 10, 2015, he secured a split decision win against Robert Barrera in an 11-round bout at El Poliedro in Caracas, showcasing his ability to go the distance in competitive matches. Cañizales continued to build on his success in 2016, with wins such as a first-round TKO against Edicson Fuenmayor on January 29 and a unanimous decision victory over Alexander Guarecuco on March 5, both in Caracas. He maintained his form with a third-round TKO against Dallan Llovera on May 21, followed by a unanimous decision win over Dionis Martinez on June 4, both at Centro Recreacional Yesterday in Turmero.

 

His rise continued with a sixth-round TKO against Yenrry Bermudez on July 22, 2016, and a third-round TKO over Vicente Mirabal on October 1, 2016, both in Venezuela. Cañizales then fought Ryoichi Taguchi to a split draw on December 31, 2016, in Tokyo, Japan, for the WBA light flyweight title, highlighting his ability to compete on the global stage. In 2017, he secured notable victories, including a fourth-round TKO against Argenis Cheremo on August 12 and a fourth-round RTD win over Yenrry Bermudez on September 29, both in Venezuela. Cañizales captured the vacant WBA (Regular) light flyweight title with a unanimous decision win over Reiya Konishi on March 18, 2018, in Kobe, Japan, and successfully defended his title with a twelfth-round TKO against Lü Bin on July 15, 2018, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

 

He continued to defend his title successfully, including a unanimous decision win over Sho Kimura on May 26, 2019, in Fuzhou, China. However, he lost his WBA (Regular) light flyweight title to Esteban Bermudez by sixth-round KO on May 28, 2021, in Mexico City. Cañizales bounced back by winning the vacant WBA Federacibe light flyweight title with a unanimous decision over German Valenzuela on October 29, 2021, and continued his resurgence with a fourth-round KO against Ganigan López on March 26, 2022.

 

Cañizales captured the vacant WBA Fedecentro light flyweight title with a first-round TKO against Armando Torres on August 20, 2022, in Mexico City. He continued his winning ways with a technical decision over Daniel Matellon on June 10, 2023, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His most recent fight was a majority decision loss to Kenshiro Teraji on January 23, 2024, in Osaka, Japan, for the WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring light-flyweight titles, marking a significant bout in his career.
