Professional Career

 

Alberto Puello began his professional career on March 7, 2015, with a first-round TKO victory over Marcos Hernandez at Casa de los Clubes in Santo Domingo. This impressive debut set the tone for Puello’s career, marked by a blend of technical skill and knockout power. Puello’s early career saw a string of victories in his home country, where he developed a reputation for his consistent performance and resilience. By 2017, he had claimed the vacant WBA Fedelatin and WBC Latino super lightweight titles by defeating Abrahan Peralta via a retirement decision in the eighth round. His title defenses showcased his dominance in the ring, including a first-round knockout against Ricardo Gutierrez in November 2017, and unanimous decision wins over Erick Lopez and Francisco Contreras Lopez.

 

The breakthrough in Puello’s career came on July 27, 2019, when he won the WBA interim super lightweight title by defeating Jonathan Alonso via unanimous decision at Coliseo Carlos ‘Teo’ Cruz in Santo Domingo. This victory solidified his status as a top contender in the super lightweight division. He successfully defended this title against Jesus Antonio Rubio and Cristian Rafael Coria, demonstrating his ability to maintain his performance at a high level.

 

Puello’s success continued on August 20, 2022, when he claimed the vacant WBA super lightweight title with a split decision win over Batyr Akhmedov at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida. This victory was a testament to Puello’s tenacity and skill in closely contested bouts. He followed this up with a unanimous decision victory over Ve Shawn Owens in December 2021, further cementing his reputation as a formidable champion. In 2023, Puello defended his undefeated record with a unanimous decision win over Ector Madera at the Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His most recent triumph came on June 15, 2024, when he won the vacant WBC interim super lightweight title by defeating Gary Antuanne Russell via split decision at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada.
