Fans Worried After Gervonta Davis Skips The Grand Arrivals – ‘He’s Trying To Make Weight’

Gervonta Davis failed to turn up for the Grand Arrival arrivals ahead of his fight with Frank Martin on June 15.
Davis enters the ring hoping to follow up on his last performance. He stopped Ryan Garcia with a body shot to become the ‘face of boxing’. The fight sold over 1.2 million PPVs, making it the highest-grossing event of 2023. While that may have been the case, Davis’ progression stalled. He served prison time for breaking his house arrest conditions over a hit-and-run incident. He had been ordered to stay at his coach, Calvin Ford’s house.
Davis breached those conditions, meaning he served 44 days in jail. Since then, Garcia has become the main talking point in boxing. In a thrilling fight, he beat Devin Haney via a majority decision, dropping him three times. Although Garcia has tested positive for Ostarine, his fanbase has grown as he seeks to prove his innocence.
Davis vs. Martin
Martin is considered Davis’ biggest test to date. The southpaw is Garcia’s stablemate. His record stands at 18-0. Martin began boxing at a late stage, around 15 years old. However, he has improved considerably, having forged a reputation for having a good defense. His previous bout, however, was tougher than expected.
Martin was behind against Artem Harutyunyan, only to pull away in the latter half. Artem took a knee in the last round, as Martin won a unanimous decision. Given that Davis will headline his first PPV on Amazon Prime for PBC, it was surprising to see the boxer not turn up. He had previously posted the following, suggesting he was not turning up. The boxer was then allegedly spotted running rather than turning up.
“The promotion for this fight been [bad]… now watch ion [sic] show up to the arrivals…today,” Davis stated
Martin and Tank’s trainer, Calvin Ford, spoke to the media in his absence.
Grand Arrivals
“I’m feeling good. We’ve been training for a while, I’m locked in, I’m focused. You know, the whole goal was to come out here and beat him and I’m ready to take the spot and I’m here for a reason. I ain’t here just to be here, I’m here to take this…over…I’m different. I got some things: I got speed, I got power, I got IQ. I feel like I got it all. Ya’ll gonna see. When it’s time to bite down, the world gonna see. We got this fight Saturday and I’m going to whoop his ass…we got Saturday to show who’s who,” Martin
“I want to apologize to the fans. He can’t make it at this moment because he’s been delayed, but he’s going to make it up to y’all on fight night. Trust what I’m saying to y’all. Y’all want to see this performance that he’s going to put on to the fans. We’re back in business. We’ve been waiting for this for a while. We want to put on a great performance, we want to put on a great performance for the fans at the end of the day.
“Watching him in camp, it scares me because of the things he’s doing and his maturity when he gets in that ring. I’ve seen him listen to a conversation, listen to what’s going on, and he’s real focused. “It’s serious, because it’s a different type of fight. You can’t sleep on Frank. Frank is coming to put on that party. He showed it at the press conference, he showed it throughout the whole ordeal for being a young guy that’s coming on the scene at this level right here. I want people to leave, watch TV and leave the arena saying that’s one of the classiest fights we’ve seen since the old days,” Ford
Benavidez vs. Gvozdyk
In chief support, David Benavidez boxes Oleksandr Gvozdyk in his first fight at 175. It is a WBC Interim Light Heavyweight Clash. The winner knows they became mandatory for the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol, who fight for undisputed on October 12. Benavidez and Gvozdyk have sparred previously, with Gvozdyk admitting that Benavidez came out on top. This time around, he will hope it is different.
