Fans Warned Against Streaming Usyk Vs. Fury Illegally - 'Puts Consumers At Risk'

Fans have been warned about illegally streaming the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury rematch.

The December 21 clash has a lot on the line. Usyk enters the fight with a win over Fury in their first bout via a split decision. He became the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, capping off a huge feat in being a two-weight undisputed champion. This fight will not be for undisputed since Usyk vacated his IBF belt. But the winner knows they could fight for undisputed again by facing Daniel Dubois. Fury has plenty to prove after suffering his first loss, knowing he can set up a trilogy fight with a win.

The demand for the first fight was huge. The Daily Mail reported that 2,000 streaming sites were open across the globe to watch the fight illegally. 18 percent were credited with being in the UK, while 25 percent were present in North America. It is claimed those numbers led to a loss of $120 million in revenue. BeStreamWise, a company that warns customers about the dangers of streaming, has told fans that they could become victims of scammers if they illegally stream.

Fans Warned

“Choosing to bypass official channels to watch the highly anticipated Fury vs. Usyk fight this Saturday isn’t just risky—it’s illegal and can expose you to serious dangers. Illegal streaming puts consumers at risk of malware, financial theft, and the compromise of personal data, such as emails, photos, and browsing history. During events of high viewership, fraudsters are targeting unsuspecting viewers.

“BeStreamWise is dedicated to raising awareness about the significant dangers of illegal streaming, educating on the facts, and ensuring consumers know where to safely watch the content they love. Boxing fans should enjoy the fight offered by official providers, rather than facing the risks of being a target to criminal operations,” Kieron Sharp (CEO of BeStreamWise)

Solutions

The way to discourage fans from illegally streaming fights would be to make the PPV price more affordable. The Saudis have previously said they would like to set a global PPV price at $20. The first Fury and Usyk fight was priced at $69.99. The rematch price has been reduced drastically. It has been priced at $39.99. That would encourage fans to invest more in the sport, giving boxers bigger paydays. The other alternative is to punish those who engage in illegal streaming. If tougher action was taken against those in the boxing industry, it may discourage fans from attempting it.

There is also the option to invest more in tracking down those who maliciously set up these websites to prevent boxing fans from unknowingly giving away their details or being exposed to malware threats. But ultimately, boxing fans want value for their money. The first Fury and Usyk fight demonstrated that. It was also the first undisputed heavyweight fight since 1999 when Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield to win all the belts. Questions remain about whether fans will see another classic.
