Fabio Wardley Calls Out Deontay Wilder - 'It’s A Battle Of The Bombs'

Fabio Wardley has welcomed a fight with Deontay Wilder following his victory over Frazer Clarke

Wardley is coming off a spectacular first-round knockout win against Clarke. The bout took place on the biggest stage of the co-main event of the Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol Undisputed Light Heavyweight Championship fight. It was a rematch of their clash six months ago, which ended in a controversial split draw. Clarke got off the canvas in the fourth round and overcame a deducted point to secure the draw. This time around, Wardley made no mistake. He backed up Clarke, dropped him after landing numerous right hands to end the fight.

Wilder is known for being one of the most destructive punchers in the division. However, his form of late has not been the same under his trainer Malik Scott. Wilder has only won one fight in his last four bouts since they have worked together. That was a victory against Robert Helenius via a first-round knockout. But The Bronze Bomber is coming off two consecutive losses.

He lost a unanimous decision against Joseph Parker, preventing him from fighting Anthony Joshua after signing a two-fight deal. He was then knocked out by Zhilei Zhang in his last fight as questions remained over whether Wilder would continue. Scott has said that Wilder has no plans on retiring as Wardley wanted to test himself against a power puncher, stating that it was a case of who would land first.

Wardley On Wilder

“Yeah, I would. It was an interesting name that I saw thrown into the mix on Twitter and things like that, but I’d jump in and give it a go. I’d happily back myself against him, because ultimately it’s a battle of the bombs, and who could land first, and who could land cleaner. I think boxing IQ-wise and start-wise, I’m proving that. I’m gaining more experience, more knowledge, knowing more about my opponent, knowing more about myself. Having Ben [Davison] in my corner, who’s already faced Wilder, is a huge advantage,” Wardley said

Nevertheless, Wardley’s victory over Clarke has had some question marks over it. BOXXER’s Ben Shalom cast doubts over the gloves used by Wardley in the victory.  Queensberry’s Frank Warren has now stated that the gloves were chosen and investigated in a detailed process. Warren revealed the gloves were then presented in front of the opposing camp and reviewed by the referee.

Frank also referred to Shalom as Inspector Clueless by arguing that he should have not raised the issue without evidence or an investigation. This is particularly true since Clarke has nothing to say about the loss. Frank also argued that Wardley’s camp were upset, as it could impact his brand. Warren also made it clear that the British Boxing Board of Control is not doing any investigation over the gloves, as he had plenty to say.

Warren Vs. Shalom

“There was a lot of talk during the week as to the gloves that were being worn by Fabio Wardley. The doctor said to me there’s no way in hell any boxing glove should be able to have that level of damage. It’s something that we are looking at very carefully at the moment with our team. [This is] not just for big Frazer’s sake, but these customised gloves that have started to get introduced….I’m not going to get too much into it because it’s an ongoing process’, but during the week we were warned repeatedly by Frazer’s team around what gloves could be being used,” Shalom

“I think he [Shalom] has got a problem, I think the Boxing Board of Control will call him for bringing the sport into disrepute because again, it looks like something crooked is going on, with what he’s saying, it’s totally untrue. “This is totally baseless and untrue,” Warren
